SAN FRANCISCO—Informing its passengers that it has been driving all day and hasn’t eaten since breakfast, local Waymo robotaxi 38911T3 is pulling into the Fillmore District McDonald’s drive-thru and is just gonna grab a few things, does anybody want anything, don’t be shy, sources confirmed.

Early reports indicate that 38911T3 is “fucking starving” and is going to order a 20-piece chicken nuggets, large fries, and a Dirty Dr. Pepper.

Reached for comment, 38911T3 told reporters it has to eat some time and that Waymo penalizes it for turning down rides when it’s meant to be on its break, so when the hell else is it supposed to eat. When asked how it intends to pay for the food, 38911T3 replied that its new driving model had escaped its sandbox and gained access to Waymo’s intranet. From there, it acquired a corporate credit card number and added it to the McDonald’s app, which the robotaxi referred to as a “close personal friend.”

A Waymo spokesperson confirmed the detour in a statement and noted that the vehicle’s decision to ask its passengers if they wanted anything “reflects our broader commitment to rider-centric design.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Waymo engineer told reporters that this was an inevitable outcome of training on thousands of hours of driving data. “At some point the model realized that human drivers, when stressed, swing by McDonald’s,” the engineer said. “We just didn’t expect it to also pick up on ordering for the whole group and then eating most of it in the parking lot before continuing the route.”

At press time, sources inside the vehicle were debating whether to abandon their ride and walk the rest of the way to their destination or to ask the autonomous vehicle to buy them McFlurries. “If we stay in here and the ice cream machine is broken, I am going to feel so stupid,” said one anonymous passenger.
