Local Minimum is the last tech news you can trust.
We are a group of tech and tech-adjacent people who recognize that tech, AI, and venture capital are now politically powerful, economically important, and deserve to have their absurdities and inanities drawn out in a way that helps us laugh at ourselves.
In fact, if you can’t laugh at this stuff, please take another ayahuasca trip and then come back.
We aim to do that with a lot of love (for our colleagues and for the prospect of pro-social technological breakthroughs); a judicious level of hate (for a select few folks in this space who are hellbent on leveraging new technologies for horrific evil); and, where appropriate, a pedantic level of technical accuracy.
Also, because I’m sure people will ask, here is our AI content policy: Neutrality.
The vast majority of our headline pitches are straight off our meat domes. I have seen some of the attempts at written comedy as practiced by frontier LLMs and they range from hackish and needlessly verbose to publishable with minor edits. The only way to discern what’s funny (and, frankly, to get output that is close to publishable in the first place) is to have a strong feel for your own comedic voice and the sensibilities of your target audience. So we are neutral on AI use on this website. What matters is that it’s funny and that it aligns with our values.
